Will Doran

A Modern-Day Pianist in Lille, France

Originally from Virginia in the United States, I've been living in Lille since 2024. I grew up studying classical piano, but in high school I started being drawn to improvising. The act of creating music on the spot and interacting with others really appeals to me. After graduating from James Madison University with a BM in Piano Performance, I decided to change course and went to Knoxville to study jazz at the University of Tennessee under the great pianist and educator, Donald Brown.

Since then, I've been playing in a variety of settings, from jazz trio to classical ensembles, church pianist to pop/rock and reggae bands. I've had the opportunity to perform at the Tennessee Theater as well as in some local music festivals. I pride myself on being versatile and giving my all to the music that I play.

Besides playing, I also have a passion for teaching! I have been teaching students age 4-60+ since 2011. I think it's very important to foster a love of music in the community, and I love seeing my students grow and develop.
